Description

The pipe organ at the Parish Church of Saint Luke Evanston was built in 1921 by the Skinner Organ Company of Boston and was fully restored by the A. Thompson-Allen Company. It is on this magnificent pipe organ that Ken Cowan, Professor of Organ at Rice University, displays the versatility of his talents. Featured organ transcriptions are Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries”, “Romance to the Evening Star”, the “Grand March” from Tannhauser plus original organ compositions by Widor, Wesley and Saint-Saens. The disc concludes with Karg-Elert’s large-scale Symphonic Chorale on “Jesu, Meine Freude. This recording comes with extensive documentation: an essay about the pipe organ, notes on the music, stoplist and numerous photos.
