Description
This recording features John Scott in a June, 2006 recital on the pipe organ in Washington National Cathedral. John Scott was Organist and Director of Music at Saint Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue in New York City and was one of the world’s leading organists and choir trainers. The recording starts with Lemare’s organ transcription of Richard Wagner’s massive and grandiose Overture to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, which traverses the gamut of orchestral colors and shows off the cathedral’s pipe organ well. The recording also includes works by Handel, Bach, Mozart, Reger, Jongen, Vierne and modern works by Jonathan Harvey and Ad Wammes. The 32-page booklet includes detailed notes on the music, a full stop list, numerous photographs, and a fascinating interview with Mr. Scott by then New York Times Assistant Managing Editor, Craig Whitney.
