Description

Stephen Tharp plays Marcel Dupré’s “Stations of the Cross” on the Cavaillé-Coll pipe organ in Saint-Sulpice, Paris. The Stations of the Cross were improvised in Brussels in 1931 as meditations on poems by Paul Claudel. Dupré was so pleased that he later wrote them down. Duprés musical commentary on these poems is his magnum opus, which he would play throughout his life, including annually during Lent at Saint-Sulpice, Paris, where he was organist. Stephen Tharp’s recording is the first-ever CD release of Dupré complete Stations of the Cross from Saint-Sulpice, Paris, Duprés own instrument. Additionally it was recorded in Surround Sound. The disc is playable on all CD players. This recording comes with extensive documentation: notes on the music, stoplist and numerous photos.
