Daniel Roth at organ in Our Lady of Refuge in Brooklyn Diocese

Finest Pipe Organ in Brooklyn Diocese | Daniel Roth Vierne Symphony

The Brooklyn Diocese has one of the finest pipe organs in New York City. Daniel Roth, organist of Saint-Sulpice can be seen and heard playing the Final from Symphony No. 4 of Louis Vierne on the newly restored Kilgen Pipe Organ at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Brooklyn, New York.

Mr. Roth is currently Titular Organist at the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris, was Professor of Organ at the Musikhochschule in Frankfurt am Main and has earned the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, Officier des Arts et Letters, Prix Florent Schmitt and Institut de France. Mr. Roth also has composed music for organ, choir and orchestra and has made many recordings. He has concertized extensively throughout Europe, the USA, Scandinavia, Japan and Korea.

Daniel Roth was the last of 7 organists who played at Our Lady of Refuge Church in the Brooklyn Diocese to celebrate the restoration of this formerly almost mute pipe organ. The restoration of the pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge is a testament to what can happen when you surround yourself with dreamers, believers and doers, and an understanding that no dream will be realized unless tirelessly pursued. What many called the impossible dream, the removal of the parish’s dilapidated pipe organ in March of 2007, the ensuing seven years of fundraising, contributions from over 1500 people (many of whom have never been to Brooklyn) resulted in a first-class restoration of the old pipe organ built in 1933 by the Kilgen Organ Company. The instrument exceeded everyone’s expectations when on October 18, 2013 it was re-dedicated and blessed by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, Father Michael Perry and Olivier Latry with the church filled to capacity. The organ was restored by the craftsmen at A.R. Schopp’s Sons in Alliance, Ohio and Quimby Pipe Organs in Warrensburg, Missouri.
