Organist Todd Wilson while preparing for an organ recital at Our Lady of Refuge in Brooklyn sat down and just played the Bach Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, BWV 582 from memory on the restored Kilgen pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge.
Video cameras and audio were being recorded while he was playing and this was what we captured.
Todd Wilson’s perforamance is in the Symphonic School of organ playing. Which relates to the manner in which he uses all of the different colors in this little 25-rank pipe organ.
Todd Wilson was one of several performers that played on the dedicatory series of organ recitals celebrating the restoration of the pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge in the Brooklyn Diocese . The restoration of this pipe organ was largely paid for by “crowd funding”. As of March 10, 2015 there are two more organ recitals remaining. If you live in the New York area please try to make one of the remaining recitals. Full details of the organ recitals at Our Lady of Refuge can be found here.
For a terrific recording of Todd Wilson on the JAV label, look at the CD recorded he on the Skinner Organ at the Parish of St. Luke in Evanston, Illinois. It has some terrific music on it. Link to Todd Wilson play in Evanston.
If you enjoyed this video of the Bach Passacaglia would you consider leaving some comments on youtube about it or sharing it with a friend? Thank you. Joe Vitacco
